To make any space feel like home, you need to fill it with personal touches, soft lighting, and comforting textures that reflect who you are.

Add Personal Items

Display family photos, sentimental objects, and favorite books instead of buying generic store displays.

Hang wall art in mismatched frames to make the room look collected over time rather than rushed.

Let the space evolve slowly as your life changes, rather than trying to finish everything at once.

Build Internal Safety

Orient to the room: Look around your actual environment and notice where you are to signal safety to your brain.

Feel physical contact: Press your feet firmly into the floor or notice the weight of your chair.

Use your senses: Name five things you can see, four things you can touch, and three things you can hear.

Breathe slowly: Take deep breaths and make your exhales longer than your inhales.

Set External Boundaries

Choose your spot: Pick a seat or a corner in a room where you can see the entrances and feel in control.

Limit overstimulation: Reduce harsh lights, loud noises, or visual clutter when possible.

Communicate needs: State your boundaries clearly and calmly to the people around you.

In public or transitional spaces (streets, parking lots, hallways): Keep your head up, make brief eye contact with passersby to signal you are paying attention, and avoid rushing.

In the workplace: Look for trip hazards, moving machinery, or fatigue in yourself and coworkers, and pause to assess risks before starting any task.

At home: Maintain basic safety habits like checking locks, testing smoke detectors, and keeping main pathways clear of clutter.
